What type of anesthesia does the Labiaplasty require?

Labiaplasty is performed under IV sedation or general anesthesia with a board-certified anesthesiologist. The Atlanta Center for Breast and Aesthetic Surgery is an AAAASF accredited and Medicare certified facility. The procedure only takes one to two hours and is performed as an outpatient. You will quickly awaken following the procedure and should be able to go home within an hour after entering the recovery room.

Labiaplasty Recovery

There will be mild discomfort and swelling following labiaplasty. Eighty percent of the swelling typically subsides within the first two weeks. The remaining swelling may persist for six weeks.

Post-operative instructions after surgery include the following:

• One week off work.
• Epson salt soaks daily for one week.
• No sexual intercourse for four weeks.
• Return to normal activities at four weeks.

If you live near Atlanta, you can go home right after the surgery. Out of town patients normally stay overnight in one of our recommended hotels and can return home the next day.

In order to make sitting more comfortable, you can sit on an inflatable donut cushion. Sitz baths are recommended for therapeutic soaking in the immediate post-operative period for one week.
