How Is Botox® Administered?
Botox® is administered through tiny injections through a hypodermic needle in the region of the face being treated. In most cases, Botox® treatments do not require any preparation and can be performed quickly, without the need for sedation. For some treatments, local anesthesia may be administered before the procedure itself for maximum comfort. Dr. Work ensures each client knows exactly what to expect during Botox® administration and if preparation or aftercare is recommended. The effects of Botox® are visible immediately and can last up to six months before another appointment is needed.
Botox® Procedure Preparation
Prior to your appointment, we recommend avoiding any medications or substances that can thin the blood, such as aspirin and ibuprofen. These precautions are not a safety concern but do reduce the risk of bruising and bleeding following the injections. If you’ve recently had Botox® or other injections, notify Dr. Work immediately as additional precautions may be necessary. In addition, inform our team of your routine medications, including allergy medications, pain relievers, muscle relaxers and sleep aids.
Botox® Recovery
Botox® recovery is minimal and many of our clients resume normal activity immediately following treatment. As a general rule, we do advise keeping hands away from the face and sleeping on your back while the Botox® settles. Avoiding exercise and vigorous movements is also recommended during a short period following treatment. Any discomfort can typically be managed with a cold compress, as it is usually very minimal.
